Pose of the sage Marīci –
Ray of light, name of a Mahārṣi who was born from Brahmās spirit.
I love forward bending and I love twisting. I love to stretch, to lengthen, to wind and to melt. Beside the positive and healing effects on the body I like the mental focus: to bend, to bow, to let go.
This was impossible for me when I was young. As a child my NO was a NO and irrevocable. I would rather bite my tongue than saying: Yes, ok, I am sorry, I was wrong. Even as a teenager this attitude caused me some serious problems – up to the point when my parents kicked me out.
In the 80ies I met a coach, a spiritual healer: Art Reade. He looked at me and said: Your weak spot are your knees. You need to learn to bend the knee, to forgive and let go.
At that time I found it strange and didn’t see the deeper meaning. Now I can see that back then the healing began. It didn’t happen over night, it took many years. I learnt to let go of anger and disappointment. And to see my contribution to all of it. Today when I am wrong I can truly and easily say “sorry”. In the same way I can accept this from others.
I love forward bends, they come naturally to me. I like the idea to bow down. And to surrender to something that is bigger than us and only reveals when we can let go of egoism and attachment.
Please practice Marīcyāsana B carefully and with an open heart. And hopefully a ray of light will touch you.
